Would you please note that the Company was notified in a letter datd 24th May
1999 that, following the sale of 1,468,260 shares on 24th May 1999, the Norwich
Union Group no longer had a material interest in the Company, as detailed below.


Notification of Interest in Shares/Hodder Headline Ord 10p

With reference to Section 198 of the Companies Act 1985 (as amended) we are
writing to inform you that following the sale of 1,468,260 shares on 24th May
1999, the Norwich Union Group no longer has a material interest in your company.

The interests are being disclosed on behalf of Norwich Union plc (As the
ultimate holding company of the Norwich Union Group of Companies) and the other
companies referred to in this letter of notice.
