DermaSalve secures 5 year purchase order with South African Distributor
The Directors of DermaSalve Sciences plc ("DermaSalve" or the "Group") are
pleased to announce the first significant purchase order arising from the
distribution agreement with New Horizons to supply SafeCleanse Gel into
southern Africa, which was announced on 3 September 2007.
New Horizons has assigned its distribution rights to Safe Hands (Pty) Ltd
("Safe Hands"), an associate company of Palm Springs Group, and agreed to
establish a direct sales network to assist Safe Hands with sales and
distribution of the product within southern Africa.
DermaSalve has contracted with Safe Hands to supply a minimum of 4.5 million
(value to DermaSalve at current exchange rates) of SafeCleanse gel in the five
year period ending 31 December 2012. Safe Hands has indicated that the value of
the minimum supply in the first year will be 347,000 increasing at 50% per
annum over the term of the contract.
SafeCleanse gel has been proven to be successful against hospital superbugs,
such as MRSA and C Diff, cholera and other bugs causing dysentery as well as
the `bird flu' virus. SafeCleanse has recently been the subject of independent
virology studies in South East Asia which confirmed that the gel kills the HIV
virus within 30 seconds of contact.
The SafeCleanse gel supplied under the contract will initially be sold in South
Africa to trade wholesale and retail customers serviced by both the New
Horizons and Palm Springs networks as well as in the private sector and
corporate customers. Safe Hands has also identified significant potential in
public and private hospitals as well as medical practitioners.
The contract allows for a significant extension to the agreed terms as demand
increases, both in terms of adding to the range of products and also providing
for DermaSalve potentially to assist in establishing a manufacturing plant for
the production of SafeCleanse and eventually other products in South Africa by
Safe Hands. DermaSalve in this instance would provide the necessary technical
know-how and would assist Safe Hands in designing, constructing and operating
the plant successfully.
Commenting on the transaction, Dr Mark Randle, CEO, said "This is a landmark
first deal for what we are sure will become an important market for our
SafeCleanse product in the years ahead."
Commenting on the transaction, Dr. Phyllis Nontobeka Ngebulana-Boltina,
executive director and member of Palm Springs, said "I am delighted with the
agreement entered into with DermaSalve and I am keen to ensure that this
relationship contributes towards the fight against the spread of diseases in
South Africa. Safe Hands promotes the use of natural products and empowerment
of the disadvantaged and the strategic alliance with DermaSalve will help it in
achieving its goal of socio-economic upliftment."
