Fiat (F.MI) chief executive Sergio Marchionne Friday reiterated the carmaker's interest in taking over General Motors (GM) unit Adam Opel Gmbh but said that it doesn't depend on him, Italian newswire service Ansa reports Friday.

Marchionne was speaking on the sidelines of an event in Turin. A Fiat spokesman wasn't immediately reachable for comment.

Fiat chief executive added that the company is still working on Chrylser at the moment. In April, Fiat announced an alliance with Chrysler to produce cars in the U.S.
