Canada's Industry Minister Tony Clement said he'll meet with U.S. Treasury officials next week to discuss General Motors Corp.(GM).

"I will be in Washington later on next week to see how our progress is going. I'll be meeting with U.S. Treasury officials who are on the case," Clement said after Question Period in Parliament. "Obviously we will take stock of the situation on or before the 31st of May."

Clement wouldn't say if he expects GM to file for bankruptcy, saying that it would be "inappropriate for me to for me to project into the future on that".

Clement also said he didn't want to "prejudge" GM Canada's negotiations with the Canadian Auto Workers.

Last week, CAW President Ken Lewenza said the federal and Ontario provincial governments gave the union an ultimatum come up with a new deal on pay or risk seeing the company liquidate.
