France's market regulator Thursday extended a ban on net short positions on 10 financial companies until Nov. 11 at the latest.

Autorite des Marches Financiers said in a statement that it will review the ban by late September, in coordination with other regulators in Europe.

The regulator will lift the ban when "market conditions allow it" and in a coordinated way.

The ban is enforced on the shares of banks BNP Paribas SA (BNP.FR), CIC, Credit Agricole SA (ACA.FR), Natixis (KN.FR) and Societe Generale SA (GLE.FR), as well as insurance companies April SA (APR.FR), AXA SA (CS.FR), Euler Hermes SA (ELE.FR) and reinsurer Scor SE (SCR.FR).

Market regulators in Spain, Italy and Belgium set up similar bans on short-selling.
