Unilever PLC (ULVR.LN) said Wednesday that Chairman Marijn Dekkers is stepping down from the board with immediate effect, and that Nils Andersen will replace him.

The Dutch consumer giant--which houses Dove, Hellmann's, Marmite and Ben & Jerry's among its brands--said Mr. Dekkers is stepping down to focus on his responsibilities as founder and chairman of Novalis LifeSciences. He will continue to serve as a nonexecutive director of Unilever.

Mr. Dekkers was appointed as chairman in April 2016.

Mr. Andersen is currently a nonexecutive director and has been on the board since April 2015.
