Anglo-Dutch consumer giant Unilever PLC (ULVR.LN) said Thursday that it has received a statement of objections from the European Commission over its proposed EUR1.28 billion acquisition of Sara Lee Corp.'s (SLE) personal care business.

However, Unliever remains "confident that a positive agreement can be concluded in the fourth quarter of 2010," a company spokesman said.

The company, which makes Ben & Jerry's ice cream, Dove soap and Cif household cleaner, won't be discussing the content of the statement of objections, he added.

The European Commission wasn't immediately available for comment.
