Partnership Will Raise Awareness and Educate Domestic Violence Survivors About the Risk of Identity Theft

LifeLock, Inc. (NYSE: LOCK), an industry leader in proactive identity theft protection, and Sojourner Center, one of the nation's largest domestic violence shelters, today announced a partnership that will focus on educating victims of domestic violence about the associated risks of identity theft.

LifeLock will work with Sojourner Center to raise awareness of the potential risks that victims of domestic violence may face and offer tools to educate them on how to better help protect themselves.

The partnership is part of LifeLock’s ongoing consumer education efforts, which include partnering with community groups to help protect potential victims of identity theft by providing them with information and protection tools.

“Victims of domestic violence come to Sojourner Center not just to escape violence but to transform their lives,” said Dr. Maria Garay, Chief Executive Officer of Sojourner Center. “Unfortunately, one of the threats victims of domestic violence face is identity theft. It is a heartbreaking setback when it happens. We are extremely grateful to partner with LifeLock to help educate victims of domestic violence about some of the steps they can take to help stay one step ahead of anyone who may be trying to fraudulently use their identity.”

“Victims of domestic violence may face a higher risk of identity theft since their partner likely has access to their personal information,” said Hilary Schneider, president of LifeLock. “LifeLock has a long-standing commitment to fighting identity theft and is looking forward to working together with the Sojourner Center to educate domestic violence survivors about how they can help better protect themselves against the risk of becoming an identity theft victim.”

As part of the commitment to help fight identity theft, LifeLock trains law enforcement, victim advocates and collaborates with a variety of non-profit organizations to help consumers establish positive habits to combat identity threats. LifeLock partnered with FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (FBI-LEEDA) to provide free training to law enforcement throughout the United States and has reached more than 11,000 law enforcement officials representing more than 4,000 agencies. LifeLock also partnered with the National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA) to provide training to victim advocates throughout the United States. In 2014, LifeLock collaborated with National PTA to develop a curriculum that teaches good digital citizenship and online safety habits for children.
