A recent service enhancement allows customers
to submit payment using their InforME subscriber account
Maine’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles would like to remind citizens
and businesses that title replacement requests can now be completed
online, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Motor Vehicle Title
Replacement application is offered through the BMV website at
www.maine.gov/online/bmv/mvtr. The online service was recently
enhanced, adding a new payment method that allows customers who are
also InforME subscribers to directly bill their subscription
account for each transaction.
The service is ideal for those whose vehicle titles have been
lost, misplaced, or become illegible. Prior to the implementation
of this online service, all replacement title requests had to be
sent to the BMV’s main office for processing. Now, the online
request will immediately be sent to the main office, a new title
number will be issued, and the title will be mailed out within 10
business days.
To request that a replacement title be delivered via U.S. mail,
the titled owner must have a valid Maine driver’s license or state
identification card. The system will first check for liens, and if
the title lists a lien holder, the lien must first be released and
the BMV must be notified of the release.
Those who want to file a request will need to submit the
following information:
- The vehicle year, vehicle
identification number (VIN) and mileage
- The name, date of birth, and driver
license number of all owners
- A Visa or MasterCard credit/debit card
or their InforME subscriber account credentials
For more information about this service or for assistance with
the online process, contact the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles at
(207) 624-9000 Ext. 52230 or email them at titles.bmv@Maine.gov
The Motor Vehicle Title Replacement service is operated at no
cost to the State of Maine through InforME, the state’s eGovernment
service provider. The service is just part of the popular suite of
electronic services available through the Bureau of Motor Vehicles,
including driver license renewals, duplicate licenses, duplicate
registrations, organ donor registry, vehicle registration renewal,
driver record orders and vanity license plate orders. More than 450
online government services are now available through Maine.gov.
