Item 5.02 - Departure of Directors or Principal Officers; Election of Directors;
Appointment of Principal Officers.


Effective January 1, 2007, Dennis F. Strigl will become President and Chief
Operating Officer of Verizon Communications Inc. Compensation changes associated
with Mr. Strigl's appointment have not yet been determined. Mr. Strigl
previously served as Executive Vice President and President and CEO - Verizon
Wireless Joint Venture. In connection with this change, Lawrence T. Babbio, Jr.
will be an executive officer of Verizon Communications Inc. through the close of
business on December 31, 2006.
