Medisys & Tesco Collaborate on New Diabetes Testing Initiative

Medisys PLC is pleased to announce a marketing collaboration with Tesco plc,
which will see Hypoguard, the medical diagnostics division of Medisys, become
the preferred supplier of diabetes monitoring products to the UK's leading
supermarket retailer.

Under the terms of the agreement, Tesco will sell Hypoguard's Supreme Petit
blood glucose monitoring system through all of its 216 in-store pharmacies.
The Supreme Petit system, launched in March 1998, uses a blood glucose reagent
strip and a compact user-friendly meter to enable diabetics to measure blood
glucose levels quickly and conveniently. Tesco will support the initiative
with storewide promotion and marketing through its Clubcard magazine.

More than two million diabetics in the United Kingdom routinely test their
blood glucose levels at home, and it is estimated that more than 500,000
diabetics, or members of their family, shop at Tesco each week.

According to the World Health Organisation, the number of diabetics world-wide
is forecast to grow by over 13% a year until 2005, with the current world-wide
market for blood glucose testing estimated at approximately US$3.0 billion.

Kurt E. Amundson, President and Chief Operating Officer of Medisys, said:
"This collaboration with Tesco is very exciting for Medisys. The Petit Supreme
provides diabetics with a user friendly glucose monitoring system, the added
convenience of being able to purchase a meter or strips when doing the weekly
shop will be of great benefit to diabetics in the UK.

"Technology, and medical advances, will soon enable millions of people to
self-test for a variety of medical conditions and rapid test diagnostics will
have a vital role to play in enabling quality healthcare. Hypoguard is
already working on the development of further self diagnostic test products
including tests for peptic ulcers and offering test facilities in new
environments, such as in-store or in the workplace, will be an important part
of its marketing strategy."
