Ferrexpo PLC (FXPO.LN), a U.K.-listed, Swiss-registered iron ore miner with operations in Ukraine, Tuesday said total pellet production in the first quarter of 2010 rose 24.2% from the same period of 2009, partly due to significant increase of production from third party concentrate.

Ferrexpo said it produced 2.34 million metric tons of pellets, of which 177,300 from third party concentrate, compared with 1.88 million tons produced in the first quarter of 2009. Ferrexpo didn't produce any pellets from third party concentrate in the first quarter of 2009.

The company said the "production of pellets from third party concentrate increased significantly to meet ongoing higher demand."

Ferrexpo's pellet production in March was 848,300 tons, up 9.8% from 772,300 tons in March 2009. However, production from own material was down 2.9%.

Compared with February, March production was 16.1% higher, while production from own material was up 11.7%.
