International stocks trading in New York closed higher on Thursday.

The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts rose 1.6% to 140.10. The European index increased 0.8% to 129.75, the Asian index rose 2.8% to 172.11, the Latin American index edged 0.7% higher to 192.45 and the emerging markets index increased 3% to 293.67.

Sony Group Corp. and Micro Focus International PLC were among the companies with ADRs that traded actively.

ADRs of Sony increased 1.3% after it said it would increase the recommended retail price of PlayStation 5 in various markets globally but not in the U.S. The company pointed to inflation rates and adverse currency trends globally.

ADRs of Micro Focus edged 1% higher after it agreed to be acquired by Canadian software company OpenText. A subsidiary of OpenText will pay 532 pence ($6.30) in cash for each Micro Focus share, which represents an implied enterprise value of $6 billion. The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2023.

ADRs of AstraZeneca PLC increased 0.9% after the company and Merck said the Japan Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency approved Lynparza for the treatment of early breast cancer.
