HANFORD, Calif., May 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Thresher Industries
(PinkSheets: THRR) announced today that it has received a purchase
order from a California based
aftermarket automotive company to further develop its ThermaLite
metal matrix composite for use as an enclosure requiring superior
thermal conductivity. The purchase order defines the thermal
conductivity requirements for the enclosure and a deadline to bring
this alloy to production.
Tom Flessner, President / CEO
said, "We are very excited to enter this market. Success in this
automotive application will offer us an opportunity to quickly move
from this lower volume work to applications in first tier
automotive, where these types of enclosures are used in most new
vehicles produced in North America
and in Europe. We will supply
fully tested material and associated data to our customer before
production of cast enclosures. First tier suppliers will have use
for larger volumes and we fully intend to provide licenses to large
volume end users. Our current material has been extremely important
in opening this opportunity and both the customer and Thresher
realizes that working with its newly hired metallurgist it can
provide even better thermal conductivity. This purchase order
is for $60,000.00 and includes both
metallurgical testing as well as sample batch preparation. After
initial testing an order for tooling to pressure cast the heat sink
/ housing and production parts will be awarded with ongoing
programs for other housings and heat sinks. We believe the
production orders will initially generate $200 to 300K annually with other applications
potentially seeing at least four times that dollar amount to follow
from this one customer".
"Our ability to provide net shape enclosures that can function
as heat sinks for these enclosures is adapted from similar
technology used in stealth military applications which have been
used to minimize thermal footprints. Reducing under hood
temperatures around electrical enclosure will extend the life of
sensitive electrical components and demonstrate our material
capabilities for use in hybrid and electric vehicles".
