The following operations each received the top safety award in their respective categories: -- Federal No. 2 mine; -- Kanawha Eagle Coalburg No. 2 mine; -- Harris/Rocklick beltline group; -- Rivers Edge mine; -- Big Mountain preparation plant/Roads & Yards group; and -- Campbell's Creek No. 7 mine. Mountaineer Guardian Safety Awards are presented each year to mining operations that have demonstrated a commitment to operational safety. Inspectors for the West Virginia Office of Miners' Health, Safety & Training nominate facilities based on numerous criteria, including below average injury incidence rates and an effective, comprehensive safety program.
