State’s official website named W³ Award Gold Winner

The International Academy of the Visual Arts (IAVA) has selected Alabama’s official state website, www.alabama.gov, as a Gold Winner for the 2013 W³ Awards in the Government Website category. This award marks the sixth for alabama.gov since its refresh in May 2012 and its first W³. The W³ Award honors creative excellence on the web, and recognizes the creative and marketing professionals behind award winning sites, videos and marketing programs. In its eighth year, the W³ Awards received over 4,000 entries; less than ten percent of those entries were selected as Gold Winners.

“We were amazed at the caliber and quality of work we received this year. Our winners continue to push the envelope of Internet creativity and web design, and it is gratifying to see such great work from the smallest agencies to the biggest firms,” said Linda Day, the Director of the IAVA. “On behalf of the over 500 members of The International Academy of the Visual Arts, we are honored to recognize our winners as they continue to set a high standard of excellence for Web development.”

Alabama.gov is the official government Web portal for the State of Alabama (http://www.alabama.gov). The Alabama.gov team is dedicated to developing online services to enable citizens and businesses alike to complete tasks efficiently. The Alabama.gov site design and functionality were developed at no cost to the state.

The W³ is sanctioned and judged by the International Academy of the Visual Arts, an invitation-only body consisting of top-tier professionals from a "Who's Who" of acclaimed media, interactive, advertising, and marketing firms. IAVA members include executives from organizations such as AvatarLabs, Big Spaceship, Block Media, Conde Nast, Coach, Disney, The Ellen Degeneres Show, Estee Lauder, Fry Hammond Barr, Microsoft, MTV Networks, Polo Ralph Lauren, Sotheby's Institute of Art, Victoria's Secret, Wired, Yahoo! and many others. The IAVA judged website entries on the following factors: creativity, usability, navigation, functionality, visual design, and ease of use.
