U. S. Steel earns Vibrant Champion status for a
second time
United States Steel Corporation (NYSE: X) (“U. S. Steel”) today
announced it has been named a Vibrant Index 5.0 Champion for the
second time in recognition of its diversity, equity and inclusion
(DEI) leadership in the Pittsburgh region. The award highlights
organizations that demonstrate a strong commitment to DEI through
their policies, programs and workforce representation.
The Vibrant Index is an annual diagnostic assessment conducted
by Vibrant Pittsburgh, an economic development non-profit dedicated
to increasing diversity and ensuring continued economic vitality in
southwestern Pennsylvania, and the Allegheny Conference on
Community Development. Designed to evaluate the DEI practices of
area organizations, the Index uses a proprietary process to
evaluate responses across nine impact areas. Organizations that
score at or above the 95th percentile in each of the nine impact
areas earn Vibrant Champion status, a designation reserved for
those that embody leadership in cultivating a diverse, equitable
and inclusive workplace culture.
“U. S. Steel’s 2024 recognition as a Vibrant Pittsburgh Champion
is another proof point of the progress we are making in our
commitment to build and maintain a culture of belonging across our
global operations,” said U. S. Steel President and Chief Executive
Officer David B. Burritt.
As one of this year’s Vibrant Champions, U. S. Steel will share
practices and policies with other DEI-leading organizations in the
Pittsburgh area and work collectively with them to enhance the
region’s diversity in order to secure its economic success.
“Our Vibrant Index results give us confidence that the DEI goals
we have set for ourselves align with the larger goals of the
region, and even the country, to attract, retain and grow a diverse
workforce ready to tackle the challenges of the future,” said Mike
Williams, U. S. Steel Vice President and Chief Human Resources
Officer.
Being named a Vibrant Pittsburgh 5.0 Champion is a distinction
that highlights U. S. Steel’s role as a leading employer in the
greater Pittsburgh region and the many contributions, commitments
and investments it has made in the local community.
“Working with Vibrant Pittsburgh is one way that U. S. Steel is
helping accelerate the business community in our hometown toward
the kind of equitable, inclusive and diverse workplaces that are
critical to creating a future-forward region,” said Mona Dine, U.
S. Steel General Manager, Human Resources and Chief Diversity
Officer.
Fostering diversity, equity and inclusion is a key pillar of U.
S. Steel’s efforts to create a Culture of Caring. Recently, the
company was named one of “America’s Greatest Workplaces for
Diversity 2024” by Newsweek. Additionally, U. S. Steel earned the
Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Equality 100 Award and, for a
fourth consecutive year, received a perfect score of 100 on its
Corporate Equality Index (CEI). The company also earned the highly
respected Mansfield Certification, an accreditation awarded to a
small group of companies that successfully improved the diversity
profile of their corporate legal departments.
