Buying a put option acts like a "short" because you profit when a stock's price falls. it puts pressure on the down price like buying calls puts pressure on pushing the price up... while its not directly a short it aids the SHorts on pushing the price down and might as well be a short....

How could anyone know it would start coming back up to $164 as the NASDAQ was down by - 400 points? No one could have predicted that. At least I couldn't. I would had thought it would go down to the $130s. Nope instead it went to the $164s.
