The European Commission will ask Google Inc. (GOOG) for its views on Microsoft Corp.'s (MSFT) antitrust complaint against the search engine company, it said in a statement Thursday.

"The Commission takes note of the complaint and, as is the procedure, will inform Google and will ask for its views on it. No further information will be given," a spokeswoman for competition affairs at the commission, which is the EU's antitrust authority, said in a statement.

Microsoft said earlier Thursday it had filed a complaint against Google for alleged abuses of dominant market position.
