June 28: Northern Virginia to Get More Needed Transitional Housing for Homeless Families Freddie Mac Foundation $550,000 Grant to Help Make Possible MCLEAN, Va., June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The following is being issued by the Freddie Mac Foundation: WHAT A press conference and housewarming to announce the expansion of the Center for Multicultural Human Services' (CMHS) transitional housing program that will serve all of Northern Virginia. A $550,000 Freddie Mac Foundation grant is enabling CMHS to acquire five additional transitional housing units and provide more families with safe housing and intensive support services to prepare them for independent, self-sufficient living. By leveraging the Freddie Mac Foundation grant, CMHS was able to secure the donation of one of the homes rent-free from the City of Falls Church, ensuring that more grant money goes towards services. WHY Family homelessness in the suburbs has become a serious and growing issue. Recent immigrants are especially susceptible given the many cultural barriers they face as well as our region's high cost of living. CMHS serves this population by providing a comprehensive array of direct services and training programs to more than 8,000 refugees and immigrants, including 1,000 children.
