Scott Spradley has been named the chief information officer for Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, according to a memo obtained by The Wall Street Journal. Mr. Spradley, a seven-year veteran at H-P, most recently led efforts separating the company's IT systems as it split into two entities.

Mr. Spradley will replace Ramon Baez, who was appointed senior vice president of Hewlett-Packard Enterprise's customer advocacy organization in February, and had served in the role of CIO until now. In this customer-focused role, Mr. Baez will be speaking at conferences and consulting with CIOs on their own IT transformations, CIO Journal reported in August.

At the beginning of August, H-P began operating as two separate entities as the company waits for final approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission. The split creates two companies, Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, which will sell corporate technology and services, and HP Inc., which will sell PCs and printers. The separation of the two companies is expected to be complete on November 1. Naresh Shanker is CIO for HP Inc.

Mr. Spradley was the IT leader responsible for separating the IT components of the two companies. He managed a team that worked directly with more than 3,500 customers and partners to prepare to separate nearly 750 systems, or 95% of H-P's business. It also meant cloning 2,600 internal computer programs including human resources systems and supply chain forms, separating their data and restarting them, reported WSJ's Robert McMillan.

The memo noted Mr. Spradley's 25 years of leadership and IT experience. He has been with H-P for seven years, most recently serving as CIO of HP Global Functions. Previously, he held leadership roles at Intel Corp. and Chevron Corp.
