Engineered Support Receives New Contract for Heavy Ammunition Trailers

ST. LOUIS, Mo., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Engineered
Support Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:EASI), through its wholly-owned
subsidiary Systems & Electronics Inc. (SEI), received a new
production contract from U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments
Command (TACOM) in Warren, Michigan for M989A1 Heavy Expanded
Mobility Ammunition Trailers (HEMATs). The five-year indefinite
delivery / indefinite quantity contract expires in 2010 and
provides for the delivery of as many as 583 trailers for a total
value of approximately $40 million. The initial order under the
contract calls for 61 HEMATs valued at $4.8 million. Contract work
will occur at the company's St. Louis and West Plains, Missouri
facilities, according to Engineered Support Vice Chairman and CEO,
Gerald A. Potthoff. "HEMAT represents a capability that is an
enabler for Army modularity and the Objective Force," Potthoff
said. "It is a high-mobility trailer with a payload capacity of 11
tons designed to transport multiple-launch rocket system (MLRS)
pods, palletized/unpalletized conventional ammunition and fuel
bladders and pods on paved, secondary or cross-country roads.
HEMAT's manufactured by SEI have been used extensively by MLRS
battalions during Operation Iraqi Freedom." Engineered Support
