(NASDAQ:ATEC), a medical device company that provides customized products and a broad suite of spine fusion solutions, announced today that it has named noted neurosurgeon Bret B. Abshire, M.D., MS to its Scientific Advisory Board. The appointment reinforces Alphatec's commitment to becoming a leader in spinal technology through collaboration with leading surgeon partners and is the sixth appointment the Company has made to its Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. Abshire's area of special expertise includes disorders of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine, and he is skilled in complex re-operative spine surgeries with spinal instrumentation. He is a member of the neurosurgical faculty at the University of California, San Diego serving as Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery; Vice Chair of the Surgery Department at the Southwest Healthcare System in Southern California; has participated in several clinical studies involving the treatment of spinal disorders and has had a number of papers published in scientific journals. Dr. Abshire is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and he maintains a private, general neurological practice performing surgery for brain tumors and cerebrovascular disease. Dr. Abshire joins other distinguished surgeons and thought leaders on Alphatec's Scientific Advisory Board including Stephen H. He completed his surgical internship and neurosurgery residency at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation and had a spine fellowship at the University of South Florida / Tampa General Hospital.
