LETTER TO: COMPANY ANNOUNCEMENTS OFFICE


            INVESTEC EUROPEAN GROWTH AND INCOME TRUST LIMITED 

Following the above Company's listing on 20 October 2000 we write to provide 
details of the following interests in the issued ordinary share capital of the 
Company which have since been notified to us on 28 January 2002.

Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited purchased 630,000 shares of the above Company on 
25 January 2002, on behalf of Aberdeen Preferred Income Trust Plc.

Aberdeen Preferred Income Trust Plc now holds 4,430,000 shares representing 
6.69% of the issued share capital of that class (previously 5.74%).

The total number of shares managed by Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited and its 
associated companies is now 18,810,000 shares representing 28.09% of the issued 
share capital of that class (previously 27.14%).

Aberdeen Asset Managers have notified us that they have lodged a SAR3 with the 
London Stock Exchange.
