Substantial Shareholding

M&G Income Investment Trust P.L.C. (M&G IIT) has been advised today by
Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited ('Aberdeen')that as a result of a purchase of
1,450,000 M&G IIT Income shares on behalf of Aberdeen High Income Trust Plc
and a sale of 1,450,000 M&G IIT Income shares on behalf of discretionary funds
under management both on 30 May 2000, Aberdeen Preferred Income Trust Plc now
holds 24,983,000 M&G IIT Income shares representing 10.07% of the issued share
capital of that class and the holding by Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited and
its associated companies in M&G IIT Income shares remains unchanged at
27,353,366 representing 11.02% of the issued share capital of that class.
