Increased Performance, Smaller Carbon Footprint CHICAGO, Jan. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cobra Electronics Corporation (NASDAQ:COBR) today announced the launch of a new "greener" line of GMRS/FRS two-way radios. These models include smaller, more environmentally friendly packaging, longer ranges and increased feature sets. The new line includes six models with ultra-clear, high-performance reception and Cobra exclusive features such as VibrAlert(R) and Rewind-Say-Again(TM). (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20090610/CG28991LOGO-b) Building on its 2009 green initiative, Cobra has made the switch from a clamshell packaging design to a paperboard package for this new line of radios. With this change Cobra is reducing its plastic use by 50 to 60% and has reduced its overall packaging footprint by an average of 10%. "Cobra is working hard on reducing its carbon footprint," said Tony Mirabelli, senior vice president of marketing and sales for Cobra Electronics. "In addition to this packaging switch, all our new models are RoHS compliant (lead-free). On a corporate level we have set up Battery Recycling stations at Cobra as well as reduced overall printed materials by moving all marketing materials to an online downloadable format." Cobra has also reduced the size of its desktop chargers for the new models further reducing the plastic used and is also using energy efficient AC adapters to further conserve energy once the products are in use. The flagship CXR925 provides to users the maximum power allowed by law and the highest capacity lithium ion batteries in the industry. It also features the Cobra exclusive Rewind-Say-Again(TM) feature, allowing users to replay calls as well as record messages for later playback. This eliminates the risk of missing an important call due to a noisy environment and allows users to store information that otherwise would be lost. In addition, NOAA Weather and All Hazards Alert has been added in a lower price point model. NOAA Alerts provide up-to-the-minute weather updates, including storm warnings and emergencies, 24 hours a day in all 50 states, keeping users fully aware and prepared for storms and other emergencies. Cobra's new line of radios has a suggested retail price ranging from $49.99 to $99.95 and will be available in the first quarter of 2010.
