EDP Renovaveis (EDPR.LB) said Thursday it boosted its electricity production by 33% in the first half thanks to expanded installed capacity, primarily in the U.S.

The renewable energy unit of Portugal's Energias de Portugal SA (EDP.LB) said first-half production rose to 5,253 gigawatt hours from 3,961 gigawatt hours for the same period a year earlier.

EDPR said its installed capacity rose by 1,455 megawatts in the first half of this year, a 38% rise from the same period in 2008.

The company said in a filing with the Portuguese stock market regulator that total additions in the first half of the year amount to 249 MW, of which 200 MW came from U.S. operations.

EDPR has 1.3 GW under construction, of which 760 MW comes from Europe and 501 MW from the U.S.

EDPR will release its first-half financial results July 29.
