SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Fujitsu, a
leading information communication technology (ICT) company, today
announced that the Government of Alberta (GoA)
has signed an agreement with Fujitsu Consulting (Canada),
Inc., to manage and operate the Service Desk Services (SDS) for all
ministries of the provincial Government. During the span of the
7-year contract with an option for 3 additional years, which is
valued between USD $20-$30 million,
Fujitsu will deliver the solution to the GoA's entire user base of up to 30,000 total
users.
This service desk contract is one of the five service bundles
included in the GoA's new model
for ICT service coordination. The other bundles are Mainframe
Application Hosting, Desktop and Worksite, Managed Security, and
Managed Remote Access. Each service bundle contains a number of
related services, with the Service Desk serving as the single point
of contact.
"We're very pleased with this agreement with Fujitsu Canada,"
said Mark Brisson, Assistant Deputy
Minister of Service Modernization with the Government of
Alberta. "The agreement will
result in significant cost-savings for our government and even more
importantly, will result in improved service and efficiency for our
staff, which means better service for Albertans."
The transition of service was initiated this month, and steady
state services are scheduled to start on January 1, 2015, at which time Fujitsu will be
responsible for managing and operating the SDS. This includes
continuous service improvement geared towards increasing
efficiency, decreasing operating costs, and expanding or enhancing
services, as well as providing proactive technology lifecycle
management. In addition, Fujitsu will continue to develop new
channels and classes of service, establish a robust risk management
system and provide disaster recovery capabilities.
"This project represents an important milestone for Fujitsu in
Alberta, building on our 36-year
delivery partnership with our highly valued client, the Government
of Alberta," said David Shearer, president of Fujitsu Canada, Inc.
"Now that we are delivering a more comprehensive solution –
including Business, Application and Infrastructure Services –
Fujitsu now can more fully support the GoA to achieve its core objectives. Through
the GoA's success, we also are
able to showcase the depth of world-class capability Fujitsu can
deliver to clients across Canada,
making this a win-win for both the Government of Aberta and
Fujitsu."
