BAE Systems PLC said Tuesday that it has been awarded a five-year $143 million contract with the U.S. Navy to support the integration of various mission equipment, combat systems and computer programs.

The London-listed defense-and-aerospace group said that under the contract--awarded by the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division--it will provide management, engineering, maintenance and IT support services to the Surface Combat Systems Center, which is located in Virginia.

"This effort is vital to our nation's sailors in an increasingly challenging maritime environment," the company said.

Shares were up 2.20 pence, or 0.3%, at 792.60 pence.
