TFPD’s new website provides up-to-the-minute news during wildfire season

During the height of Colorado’s wildfire season, the Tallahassee Fire Protection District (TFPD) is equipping Northwest Fremont County citizens with the latest information through its new website—www.colorado.gov/talxfire. The new website follows the TFPD’s status as a special district in Colorado.

“We used to be a volunteer fire department,” said former Board of Director, Donna Toeroek. “We needed the new website to make it clear to citizens that we’re now a special district, and we wanted the website to reflect the identity of an official, state of Colorado website. The website allows the TFPD, as a Special District, to provide easy-to-find community information and to post important documents.”

TFPD’s website incorporates the latest news about fire danger and conditions on the home page. The District’s fire-restriction stages are prominently displayed along with a Facebook link for more information. In addition, the District’s Twitter feed is integrated into the home page.

The website also ensures that citizens are aware of the ways they can support the TFPD’s mission. It contains information about the formation of the first Auxiliary Committee, and invites neighbors as well as friends to lend their talents. It also promotes the TFPD’s second, annual open house on Saturday, July 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Citizens will be able to meet firefighters, and the TFPD is planning activities for kids.

“Tallahassee Fire Protection District joins the growing number of first responders answering citizens’ demands for comprehensive online information,” said Colorado Interactive President and General Manager, Fred Sargeson. “There’s never a more important time to provide citizens with easy access to critical information than during Colorado’s wildfire season.”

TFPD turned to Colorado Interactive (CI) and the Statewide Internet Portal Authority (SIPA) to produce its new website. CI provides digital government services to state agencies, local governments and educational entities through a contract with SIPA — the official internet portal connecting the public with Colorado government. The partnership’s mission allows government leaders to focus on delivering on-demand, digital government solutions without requests for proposals or the use of tax appropriations. The CI/SIPA partnership has benefitted more than 60 special districts and educational organizations in Colorado.

Eligible government entities in need of free website development and hosting as well as payment processing through the Colorado.gov Web portal should contact SIPA.
