Theodore Roosevelt National Park launches “Your Pass Now”

Theodore Roosevelt National Park and the National Park Service (NPS) have partnered with digital government services provider NIC Inc. (NASDAQ:EGOV) to launch “Your Pass Now,” a new program that makes entrance passes to national parks available for purchase online. Ranking no. 5 on the New York Times’ “52 Places to go in 2016” list, Theodore Roosevelt National Park is the third national park to launch Your Pass Now, a digital solution that provides an alternative to the traditional paper-based purchase method.

"Many of our visitors conduct business electronically and the public increasingly relies on technology in their daily lives,” said Wendy Ross, Superintendent of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. “We are providing another modern and convenient method of purchasing entrance passes with this pilot program.”

Your Pass Now allows visitors to Theodore Roosevelt National Park to purchase an entrance pass online, at no additional cost, in advance of their visit, using their personal computer or mobile device. Once purchased, the pass can be printed or stored on a mobile device for use on a specified date. Now in its third phase of development, two new features have been incorporated into Your Pass Now. Purchased passes can be conveniently stored in Apple Wallet and can also be retrieved with an Apple Watch. Previous phases unveiled the Your Pass Now website and equipped park rangers with mobile scanners that verify entrance pass authenticity.

“NIC is very proud to partner with Theodore Roosevelt National Park,” said Robert Knapp, NIC Chief Operating Officer. “Whether accessed from a mobile phone or Apple Watch, we are excited to bring the innovation of a digital park pass to the nearly 600,000 people who visit the park annually.”

Because Your Pass Now does not require internet connectivity, park rangers can verify the validity of an entrance pass from anywhere in the park by using their mobile device to scan the QR code on the pass. By using the Your Pass Now validation feature, park rangers can proactively detect fraudulent pass use.

Additionally, Your Pass Now promotes understanding about how park entrance fees are needed and used to protect and maintain the nation’s treasured landmarks. Your Pass Now helps collect valuable park entrance fees which pay for unfunded, park-specific projects and visitor-related services.

NIC is also providing Your Pass Now for Acadia National Park in Maine and Colorado National Monument in Colorado.
