Agency recognized for digital automation that
has saved the state $124,212
Arkansas Secretary of State (SOS) this week won a prestigious
Digital Government Achievement Award (DGAA) from the Center for
Digital Government. The agency received the award in the
Government-to-Business category for its Corporation Filings
Automation Project, which automates a paper-centric process and has
saved the state an estimated $124,212 in its first year of use.
The annual DGAA competition honors outstanding government agency
websites and applications that push the boundaries of innovation.
Thirty-four awards in eight categories were given this year to
recognize the best of thousands of entries from government agencies
and departments worldwide.
“Our goal is to offer all government business services online
and allow companies to interact with the state wherever they are,
at any time of day,” SOS Director of Business & Commercial
Services Daryl Bassett said. “This award highlights one of many
examples where we are transforming government and using technology
to serve businesses with unprecedented efficiency. We are extremely
proud of the online systems we have created with our partner INA,
and the time and cost savings we are delivering to taxpayers
because of them.”
The award-winning Corporation Filings Automation Project files
thousands of submitted electronic forms without the need for paper
copies or manual data entry. Automation has dramatically
streamlined operations for the SOS office and saved a considerable
amount of staff time and money. As a result, SOS is freeing up an
estimated 2,064 staff hours, eliminating 72,144 sheets of paper and
saving more than $20,500 in postage costs. These operational
improvements will continue to increase as more corporation filings
forms are integrated into the system each year.
