Spain has decided to halt temporarily the use of the Covid-19
vaccine made by AstraZeneca PLC following reports of blood clots
among recipients and similar suspensions elsewhere in Europe.
Spain will pause the use of AstraZeneca's vaccine for at least
15 days as a precautionary measure as it waits for a final word
from the European Medicines Agency's investigation into the matter,
Spanish health minister Carolina Darias said.
Spain has administered around 940,000 doses of the AstraZeneca
vaccine to essential workers under 55 years of age, including
police officers, firefighters and teachers.
The decision of Spanish health authorities comes after France,
Germany and Italy, among other European countries, decided to halt
injections.
AstraZeneca and its development partners at the University of
Oxford say there is no known connection between severe clotting and
the shot.
