The new routing platform is designed to help customers securely deliver high value, low touch IP services such as virtual private networks (VPNs) through its advanced network virtualization capabilities. Carrier-class security ensures that each service instance is isolated from other instances, protecting each customer's traffic. The Marconi Service Router also features the Dynamic Services Blade(TM), a flexible, integrated standards-based module that allows carriers to quickly create applications to enable the delivery of new service offerings. New services created by third-party developers can also be easily added, helping operators save on research and development costs and improving their ability to differentiate themselves in a competitive environment. Service provider Dalton Utilities is the first customer for the Marconi Service Router. Dalton provides a wide range of fiber-based telecommunications services to business and residential customers in and around Dalton, Georgia, including voice, video and Internet access. Dalton also utilizes fiber for the transfer of mission-critical process control data in its electric, natural gas, water and wastewater operational sectors.
