Substantial Shareholding

M&G Income Investment Trust P.L.C. (M&G IIT) has been advised today of the
purchase by Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited on behalf of Aberdeen High Income
Trust PLC of 3,525,000 Income Shares in M&G IIT on 14 May 1999.  

The total holding of M&G IIT Income managed by Aberdeen Asset Managers Ltd and
its associated companies, including those held within Geared Ordinary units,
is now 29,645,000 shares representing 11.95% of the issued share capital of
that class.
