INCOME SHARES OF 25P EACH

The Company has today been informed that Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited sold
10,000,000 income shares (representing 9.10% of issued class of capital) on 19
April 1999 on behalf of Aberdeen Preferred Income Trust Plc.

Aberdeen Preferred Income Trust Plc now holds 16,600,000 income shares of the
Company, representing 15.10% of issued class of capital.


The Company has today also been informed that Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited
purchased 10,000,000 income shares (representing 9.10% of issued class of
capital) on 19 April 1999 on behalf of Aberdeen High Income Trust Plc.

Aberdeen High Income Trust Plc now holds 10,000,000 income shares of the
Company, representing 9.10% of issued class of capital.

The total number of income shares managed by Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited
and its associated companies remains 31,024,554 income shares of the Company,
representing 28.23% of issued class of capital.
