INCOME SHARES OF 25P EACH

The Company has today been informed that Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited sold
800,000 income shares (representing 0.73% of issued class of capital) on 17
March 1999 on behalf of Aberdeen Preferred Income Trust Plc.

Aberdeen Preferred Income Trust Plc now holds 26,800,000 income shares of the
Company, representing 24.38% of issued class of capital.

The total number of income shares managed by Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited
and its associated companies is 28,224,554 income shares of the Company,
representing 25.68% of issued class of capital. 


ORDINARY SHARES OF 25P EACH

The Company has today also been informed that Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited
sold 1,000,000 ordinary shares (representing 1.09% of issued class of capital)
on 17 March 1999 on behalf of Aberdeen Preferred Income Trust Plc.

Aberdeen Preferred Income Trust Plc now holds 7,130,000 ordinary shares of the
Company, representing 7.80% of issued class of capital.

The total number of income shares managed by Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited
and its associated companies is 8,454,554 income shares of the Company,
representing 9.25% of issued class of capital.
