Notification of Major Interests in Shares

We wish to inform you that we have been advised by Aberdeen Asset Managers on 25
August of the following transactions carried out on the 24th August 1998:

1.  Purchase for Aberdeen Preferred Income Trust PLC 1,500,000 Ordinary 10
    Shares.

2.  Sale for Aberdeen High Income Trust PLC 1,500,000 Ordinary 10p Shares.

The total number of shares managed by Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited and its
associated companies remains at 6,700,000 shares representing 22.87% of the
Issued Share Capital of that class.  We are further informed that the shares are
held as follows:

Aberdeen High Income Trust PLC                    1,500,000           5.12%.
Danae Investment Trust PLC                          250,000           0.85%.
Jove Investment Trust PLC                           400,000           1.37%.
Aberdeen Preferred Income Trust PLC               4,400,000          15.02%.
Aberdeen Fund of Investment Trusts                  150,000           0.51%
