GEARED INCOME INVESTMENT TRUST PLC

INCOME SHARES OF 25P EACH

The Company has today been informed that Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited
purchased 2,500,000 income shares (representing 2.27% of issued class of
capital) on 24 August 1998 on behalf of Aberdeen Preferred Income Trust plc.

Aberdeen Preferred Income Trust plc now holds 15,700,000 income shares of the
Company, representing 14.28% of issued class of capital.

Also on 24 August 1998, Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited sold 2,500,000 income
shares (representing 2.27% of issued class of capital) on behalf of Aberdeen
High Income Trust plc.

Aberdeen High Income Trust plc now holds 8,000,000 income shares of the
Company, representing 7.28% of issued class of capital.

The total number of income shares managed by Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited
and its associated companies remains 25,124,554 income shares of the Company,
representing 22.86% of issued class of capital. 


ORDINARY SHARES OF 25P EACH

The Company has today been informed that Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited
purchased 1,850,000 ordinary shares (representing 2.03% of issued class of
capital) on 24 August 1998 on behalf of Aberdeen Preferred Income Trust plc.

Aberdeen Preferred Income Trust plc now holds 6,630,000 ordinary shares of the
Company, representing 7.26% of issued class of capital.

Also on 24 August 1998, Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited sold 1,850,000
ordinary shares (representing 2.03% of issued class of capital) on behalf of
Aberdeen High Income Trust plc.

Aberdeen High Income Trust plc now holds 5,000,000 ordinary shares of the
Company, representing 5.47% of issued class of capital.

The total number of ordinary shares managed by Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited
and its associated companies remains 12,954,554 ordinary shares of the
Company, representing 14.18% of issued class of capital.
