OFFERS FOR SHARES IN THE SCOTTISH NATIONAL TRUST PLC ('SNT')


1.   By 3.00 p.m. on 23rd July 1998 valid acceptances had
     been received in respect of SNT shares as follows:

2.   Prior  to  the offer period Abpref and persons presumed

     the  class) and 2,231,417 SNT stepped preference shares
     (6.99% of the class).  None of these shares is included
     in the above acceptances.

3.   The first closing date of the offers is 6th August 1998
     (3.00 p.m.).
