The Company has today been informed that Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited
purchased 3,000,000 ordinary 10p shares (representing 5.63% of issued class of
capital) on 9 April 1998 on behalf of Aberdeen New Preferred Income Investment
Trust plc.

Aberdeen New Preferred Income Investment Trust plc now holds 4,650,000
ordinary 10p shares of the Company, representing 8.73% of issued class of
capital.

Also on 9 April 1998, Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited sold 3,000,000 ordinary
10p shares (representing 5.63% of issued class of capital) on behalf of
Aberdeen Preferred Income Investment Trust plc.

Aberdeen High Income Trust plc no longer has an interest in the Company's
ordinary 10p shares.

The total number of shares managed by Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited and its
associated companies remains 9,199,246 ordinary 10p shares of the Company,
representing 17.27% of issued class of capital.
