ROYAL LONDON UK EQUITY & INCOME TRUST PLC ("the Company")

DISCLOSURE OF INTERESTS IN SHARES



The Company was today notified that, on 19 December 2001, Aberdeen Asset
Managers Limited ("AAML") sold 246,606 ordinary shares of 1 pence each in the 
Company on behalf of Aberdeen High Income Trust Plc ("AHIT"). As a result of 
this transaction, AHIT now has an interest in 5,578,004 ordinary shares of 1 
pence each in the Company, representing 7.97% of the issued share capital of 
that class.



The Company was simultaneously informed of the following transactions, which
both occurred on 19 December 2001:

1 AAML sold 91,859 ordinary shares of 1 pence each in the Company on
  behalf of Aberdeen Preferred Income Trust Plc ("APIT"). As a result of this
  transaction, APIT now holds 2,077,764 ordinary shares of 1 pence each in the  
  Company,  representing 2.97% of the issued share capital of that class.


2 AAML sold 61,535 ordinary shares of 1 pence each in the Company on
  behalf of discretionary funds under management.



As a result of these transactions, the aggregate number of shares managed by
AAML and its associated companies has decreased to 15,225,000 ordinary shares of
1 pence each, representing 21.75% of the issued share capital of that class 
(previous holding: 22.35%).
