The Board of Aberdeen Preferred Income Trust PLC has today (16 August 2001)
declared a fifth monthly dividend in respect of the year ending 28 February
2002 of 1.6p (net) per Ordinary share.

The fifth monthly dividend will have a record date of 24 August 2001 and will
be paid on 27 September 2001 to Ordinary shareholders on the register at the
record date (with a provisional ex-dividend date of 22 August 2001).
