                 EXETER SELECTIVE ASSETS INVESTMENT TRUST PLC


The Company was informed today that on 31 July 2001 4,310,000 dividend growth
1p shares were purchased by Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited on behalf of
Aberdeen Preferred Income Trust Plc. The Company was also informed today
that that on 31 July 2001 4,310,000 dividend growth 1p shares were sold by
Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited on behalf of Real Estate OpportunitiesLimited.
Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited now has an interest in 8,310,000 dividend
growth shares, representing 19.22% of the issued class of capital. The
breakdown of this holding is as follows:


Aberdeen High Income Trust PLC: 1,000,000 dividend growth shares,
(representing 2.31% of the issued class of capital)

Aberdeen Preferred Income Trust PLC: 7,310,000 dividend growth shares
(representing 16.91% of the issued class of capital)


As a result of this transaction, Aberdeen Asset Managers now have a total
interest in 11,310,000 voting shares of Exeter Selective Assets Investment
Trust PLC, representing 11.02% of the total issued voting shares.
