LEGGMASON INVESTORS INCOME & GROWTH TRUST PLC



The Company has today been notified that on 11 July 2001, Aberdeen

Asset Managers Limited purchased 7,500,00 ordinary 25p shares on behalf

of Aberdeen Preferred Income Trust Plc, representing 8.75% of the Company's

issued share capital.



The Company has also been informed that Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited

sold 7,500,000 ordinary 25p shares, on 11 July 2001, on behalf of European

Growth & Income Trust Plc, which now holds 0% of that issued share class.



The total number of shares managed by Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited

and its associated companies remains 24,622,500 shares representing 28.73% of

the issued share capital of that class.
