We have today been notified by Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited that they have
sold of 500,000 Capital Shares (representing 0.46% of that class of share) on
10 July 2001 on behalf of Aberdeen Preferred Income Trust Plc. Aberdeen
Preferred Income Trust Plc now hold 4,219,973 Capital Shares (representing
3.87% of that class of capital).

The total number of Capital Shares managed by Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited
and its associated companies, is 4,219,973 representing 3.87% of the issued
share capital of that class.

The resultant total voting shares managed by Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited
and its associated companies, is 23,345,011 shares representing 12.83% of the
total voting shares in issue.
