AMEC Sells Offshore Wind Farm to Centrica

London, United Kingdom (23rd December, 2003) - AMEC, the international
engineering services company and leading independent UK wind energy developer,
today announced the sale to Centrica of its 100% stake in AMEC Offshore Wind
Power Limited, the project company developing the Lynn offshore wind farm. The
sale is for an initial cash consideration of just under #3.5 million and
deferred consideration of up to #1.0 million. Net proceeds of the disposal will
be used to reduce bank debt. AMEC will continue to support the project under
contract to Centrica, through the provision of environmental, technical and
management services.

The Lynn development comprises 30 turbines with a planned output of around 90MW,
located five kilometres off the east coast resort town of Skegness in the
Greater Wash area of the North Sea. Consent to construct, operate and
decommission the project was secured in October this year.

The sale of Lynn follows last week's announcement that AMEC and Centrica are
teaming up to develop two further major offshore wind energy projects in the
Greater Wash area, 'Docking Shoal' and 'Race Bank', under the latest 'Round 2'
Crown Estate licenses.

Taken together, the Lynn, Docking Shoal and Race Bank projects will, once
operational, provide in excess of 1,000MW of renewable electricity - enough for
the needs of more than 1.5 million people.

David Hodkinson, Managing Director of AMEC's wind energy business, said: "We
originally invested in Lynn with a view to it being taken forward under a
project finance scheme. That route is however still being developed in the
offshore wind sector and we are very pleased that Lynn will now progress as part
of Centrica's considerable investment programme in this sector.

"Our continued involvement in the Lynn project, together with our wider
collaboration with Centrica in the Round 2 projects, reinforces our commitment
to the important and growing offshore sector of the UK wind energy industry. I
am delighted that we are on track to meet our aspiration of playing a leading
role in the delivery of over 1,000MW of offshore wind assets, with an overall
capital value of around #1 billion, over the remainder of the decade."

Notes to Editors:

1. AMEC's established position in the offshore wind sector allows the
company to take advantage of emerging opportunities in both project development
and, for the very large schemes now proposed, construction and O&M services,
where the company has the opportunity to exploit synergies with its offshore oil
and gas business.

2. AMEC and its predecessor company in the wind energy sector, Border
Wind, were developers of the pioneering semi-offshore wind farm on the harbour
wall at Blyth, Northumberland (operational 1991) and formed the Blyth Offshore
consortium to develop the UK's first offshore wind farm located off the coast of
Blyth (operational 2000).

3. Onshore, where AMEC already supports five operational wind farm
sites, the company anticipates bringing about 200 megawatts onto the market each
year, providing sufficient electricity for around 300,000 people.

AMEC plc (LSE:AMEC), the international engineering services company, provides
design, project delivery and maintenance support to clients in the oil and gas,
transport, industrial and infrastructure sectors. The company generates annual
revenues of some #5bn and works at the local, national and international levels,
employing some 45,000 people throughout the UK, continental Europe, the Americas
and some 40 countries worldwide. www.amec.com
