General Motors Co. Chief Executive Frederick "Fritz" Henderson said Tuesday that it is "quite possible" the company will finalize the sale of its Adam Opel GmbH unit this week.

GM said last month it would sell its Opel unit, as well as sister brand Vauxhall, to Austrian-Canadian car-parts maker Magna International Inc. (MGA) and Russian bank OAO Sberbank (SBER.RS)

Henderson also said GM plans to conduct an initial public offering in the second half next year.

He made the comments at a media briefing during his first visit to China since GM's emergence from bankruptcy protection in July.
