Ministers from countries hosting Adam Opel GmbH or Vauxhall car plants will meet Oct. 7 to discuss a plan to bail out the stricken company, the European Union's Commissioner for Industry Guenter Verheugen said Thursday.

The discussions will be used as a basis for a decision on what government subsidies will be made and which countries will pay, Verheugen said.

European Commission officials will also be present at the meeting.

Germany has promised EUR4.5 billion in aid to Opel, part of General Motor Co's European operations. GM sold 55% of Opel to Canadian auto parts maker Magna (MGA) earlier this month.
