General Motors Corp. (GMGMQ) plans to transfer production of the
GMC Sierra Hybrid pickup truck to its plant in Silao, Mexico, from
a facility in Oshawa, Ontario, a company spokeswoman said
Monday.
The Mexican plant already produces the Crew Cab version of the
Sierra, with a non-hybrid engine, as well as several other models
of pickup trucks, the spokeswoman for General Motors de Mexico
said.
She said further details on the move, including production
numbers, should be available next month.
General Motors' Mexican operations haven't been directly
affected by the company's U.S. Chapter 11 proceedings.
Last week General Motors said it will idle its plant in the
north-central Mexican city of San Luis Potosi for seven weeks this
summer to adjust for weak demand. Its three other Mexican auto
plants - in Toluca, Ramos Arizpe and Silao - are expected to
continue operating normally.
